  • Red Heart® Super Saver (50 oz.) – Aran
  • Tapestry Needle

Gauge Each square measures approximately 8.5 inches

Special Stitches

Small Popcorn: Work 2 dc in same stitch, remove hook from last dc and insert it in the top of the first dc, draw through lp made by last dc.

Square (make 48):

Rnd 1: Ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 1, 4 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 1, sl st to third ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each of next 3 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 3, sk ch-1 sp, [Small Popcorn (see Special Stitches above) in next dc, ch 1] 3 times, Small Popcorn in next dc, ch 3, sk ch-1 sp, 2 dc in each of next 3 dc, sk ch 1 sp, ch 3, sl st to first sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, remove hook from last dc and insert it in the third ch of beg ch 3, draw through lp made by last dc, ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 6 dc, ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, * Small Popcorn in next Small Popcorn, ch 1, Small Popcorn in ch-1 sp, ch 1, rep from * twice more, Small Popcorn in last Small Popcorn (7 Small Popcorns), ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 6 dc, ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st to top of 5-dc group (head of angel), sl st into next ch-3 sp.

Rnd 4: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout), dc in sc, ch 1, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 1, [dc, ch 3, dc] in first dc of 12-dc group of wing, ch 1, {sk dc, hdc ]in next dc, ch 1} 5 times, hdc in ch-3 sp, ch 1, sk sc, [dc, ch 3, dc] in next ch-3 sp, [ch 1, hdc between Small Popcorn] 6 times, ch 1, [dc, ch 3, dc] in ch-3 sp, sk sc, ch 1, hdc in next ch-3 sp, [Ch 1, sk dc, hdc in next dc] 5 times, ch 1, sk dc, [dc, ch 3, dc] in last dc of 12-dc group of second wing, ch 1, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 1, dc in sc, ch 1, dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, sl st to third ch of beg ch-4.

Rnd 5: Ch 3. [Dc in ch-1 sp and next dc] 3 times, [2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in next ch-3 sp (Corner made), * dc in next dc, [dc in ch-1 sp and next hdc] 6 times, dc in ch-1 sp, dc in dc, work Corner in ch-3 sp, rep from * twice more, [dc in dc, dc in ch-1 sp] 4 times, sl st to third ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st of joining and in each of next 8 dc, 3 sc in ch-3 sp (Corner made), * sc in each of next 19 dc, work Corner in ch-3 sp, rep from * twice more, sc in each of next 10 dc, sl st to first sc.

Rnd 7: Ch 4, [sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1] 4 times, [dc, ch 3, dc] in 2nd sc of 3-sc Corner (Corner made), * ch 1, [sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1] 10 times, work Corner in 2nd sc of 3-sc Corner, rep from * twice more, ch 1, [sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1] 5 times, sl st to third ch of beg ch-4.

Rnd 8: Ch 3, [dc in ch-1 sp and in next dc] 5 times, [2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in ch-3 sp (Corner made), * dc in next dc, [dc in next ch-1 sp and in next dc] 11 times, work Corner in ch-3 sp, rep from * twice more, [dc in next dc, dc in ch-1 sp] 6 times, sl st to third ch of beg ch-3, fasten off.

Joining With tapestry needle, and right sides facing, join squares by whipstitching in the back lps only until there are 8 rows of 6 squares, ensuring that the angels are all facing the same direction.

Border Rnd 1: Join with sl st to any ch-3 sp of Corner, ch 3, [2 dc, ch 3, 3dc] in ch-3 sp, * dc in each dc, skipping each seam between the squares, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in Corner (Corner made), rep from * around, sl st to third ch of beg ch-3 and across to ch-3 sp.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in corner (Corner made), * sc in each dc, work Corner in ch-3 sp, rep from * around, sl st to first sc, fasten off.
