Technique: Regular Crochet
Finished size
Hat body 26″, brim 19″ (stretchy), height 8.5″
Materials
- Color A: Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic, 244 yds per 5 oz): 100 yds (shown in Pink Tones)
- Color B: Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic, 364 yds per 7 oz): 100 yds (shown in Café Latte)
- Suggested hook sizes: L-11 [8mm] (larger hook) and H-8 [5mm] (smaller hook)
- Stitch marker (or small piece of scrap yarn)
- Needle (for weaving ends and seaming brim)
Notes
Hat is worked top-down, brim is applied once the hat body is finished.
When working in unjoined rounds, use a stitch marker or scrap piece of yarn to mark the last stitch of each round so you won’t lose your place in the round.
Fasten off yarn after color changes.
Gauge
After round 4, approx. 3″
After round 6, approx. 5.5″ (at widest points)
After round 10, approx. 9.5″
Special Stitches
Single Crochet Two Together (sc2tog): Insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through three loops on hook.
Front Post Treble Crochet (fptr): Yarn over two times, insert hook to side, around the back and out the other side of the indicated stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, [yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook] 3 times.
Double Crochet Two Together (dc2tog): Yarn over, insert hook in stitch indicated, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.

Instructions
Work in unjoined rounds until instructed otherwise.
Round 1: With color A and larger hook, ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around: 8 sc.
Round 3: 2 sc in each sc around: 16 sc.
Round 4: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around: 24 sc.
Round 5: [Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, sl st to next sc: 32 sc.
Begin working in joined rounds.
Round 6: Ch 2 (counts as dc), 3 tr in next sc, dc in next sc, sc in next sc, *dc in next sc, 3 tr in next sc, dc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, sl st to top of beg ch-2, changing to B: 8 scallops.
Round 7: With B, ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next st, 5 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, sk next sc, *sc in next 2 sts, 5 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, sk next sc, rep from * around, sl st to first sc: 72 sc.
Round 8: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, sc in next 3 sc, *3 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc, rep from * to last 5 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, sl st to first sc, changing to A: 88 sc.

Round 12: Rep round 10, changing to A at end of round.

Round 17: Ch 1, hdc in same st as joining, hdc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sk next st, *hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sk next st, rep from * around, sk beg ch-1, sl st to first hdc, do not fasten off A: 72 sts.
Brim
Row 1: (Still attached to hat, ribbing is worked vertically along stitches of last round of hat.) With smaller hook and color A, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook and in next 4 ch, on hat body sk 1 st from round 17, sl st in next st, turn ribbing.
Row 2: Working in back loops only, sc in 5 sc, turn ribbing.
Row 3: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in 5 sc, on hat body sk 1 st from round 17, sl st in next sc, turn ribbing.
Repeat rows 2-3 until all stitches used from round 17, fasten off.
Finishing
With yarn needle, seam Brim. Weave in all ends securely. If desired, make pompom in color B and attach to center top of hat.
