Rosebuds in the Snow Bedspread Free Crochet Pattern

This right here is the reason why I couldn’t bring myself to work with thread again for over a decade.

You see, I was contacted by Annie’s Attic and I was asked whether I could design a pineapple bedspread. As luck would have it, I had recently designed and stitched up a square with pineapples and a flower center. I was excited and immediately stitched up my design with thread and sent it to Annie’s.

But wait!

You see, I never even thought about having to stitch up the entire bedspread. I was just too excited about the square I had designed. It was accepted and then I ordered the thread. Lots and lots and lots of thread.

When I first started making the squares, I timed myself. I could do one in four hours. I started out by making two each day. As time went on, I was working less and less on this bedspread. I wanted so badly to work on something else, but I forced myself to go on.

Maintaining Momentum for a Large Project

And, therein lies the problem.

I don’t work very well when I’m forced to crochet.

I can do it for a little while, but I can’t maintain the momentum needed. In the end, it took me six months to finish this project.

Was it worth it?

Oh, my YES! Yes, indeedy.

The bedspread is an heirloom and I will be passing it down to my daughter. It is the most extraordinary, labor-intensive thing I’ve ever done. Now that I’m older, I’m so glad that I did something like this when my eyes were younger. 😉

In retrospect, I really wish I knew then what I know now. If I’m forced to work on something, I can get it finished more quickly if I work on other things at the same time. I really, really wish I had known this. I could have had that bedspread finished in half the time!

If you’re looking for an heirloom that you’ll be able to keep in the family for generations, give this one a go. It’s truly an amazing project.

When you take on a project like this, don’t forget to take breaks and don’t forget to do some small projects during those breaks! It won’t seem nearly as intimidating.
