Technique: Tunisian Crochet

Finished Size

approx. 7.5″

Materials

Lily Sugar ‘n Cream, size 4 100% cotton, colors used in samples: hot green (A) and hot pink, hot purple, hot blue or hot orange (B) About 30 yards of A and 25 yards of B required for one

Suggested hook size: Size K10-1/2 (6.5mm) afghan Tunisian hook

Yarn Needle (for weaving ends)

Fabric Glue (optional)

Gauge

In stitch pattern, 13 stitches for 11 rows equals 4″

Special Stitches

Tunisian Reverse Stitch (trs): With hook in back of work, insert hook from side-to-side under indicated back vertical bar, yarn over, pull loop through.

Tunisian Simple Stitch Two Together (tss2tog): Insert hook from side-to-side under two indicated front vertical bars at the same time, yarn over, pull loop through.

Tunisian Simple Stitch (tss): Insert hook from side-to-side under indicated front vertical bar, yarn over, pull loop through.

Tunisian Full Stitch (tfs): Insert hook from front to back under the closing chain, yarn over, pull loop through.

Instructions

Row 1:

A: With A, ch 24, sk first ch, *insert hook in next ch, yo, pull lp through (lp remains on hook), rep from * across-24 lps on hook.

B: Ch 1, [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] until 2 lps remain on hook, drop A, with B, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook. (1 lp remains on hook here and throughout).

Row 2:

A: With B, sk first vertical bar, [trs, tss2tog] 7 times, trs, insert hook in 2 outside lps of last st, yo pull lp through-17 lps on hook.

B: Ch 1, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, [ch 1, (yo, pull through 2 lps on hook) twice] 7 times, drop B, with A, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook.

Row 3:

A: With A, sk first vertical bar, [trs, tss, tfs] 7 times, trs, insert hook in 2 outside lps of last st, yo, pull lp through-24 lps on hook.

B: Ch 1, [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] 22 times, drop A, with B, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook.

Rows 4-17: Rep rows 2-3 consecutively.

Row 18: Rep row 2.

Row 19:

A: With A, sk first vertical bar, [trs, tss, tfs] 7 times, trs, insert hook in 2 outside lps of last st, yo, pull lp through-24 lps on hook.

B: Ch 1, [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] 23 times.

Row 20: Still with A, sk first vertical bar, *insert hook as for trs, yo, pull lp through and through lp on hook (sl st made here and throughout), insert hook as for tss2tog, yo, pull lp through and through lp on hook, insert hook in second front vertical bar of same two vertical bars just worked, yo, pull lp through, rep from * to last 2 sts, insert hook as for trs, yo, pull lp through and through lp on hook, insert hook in 2 outside lps of last st, yo, pull lp through and through lp on hook, fasten off A and B.

Finishing

Weave in all ends carefully. Fabric glue can be used to help hold in the ends.
