A swatch worked with larger hook in single crochet across 17 stitches for 22 rows equals approximately 4″ square.

With larger hook, ch 38 (41, 44), sc in second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, turn.
*Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn, rep from * until a total of 66 (68, 70) rows have been completed, do not cut off.
Ch 1, sc across 27 (30, 31) sc, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.
*Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn, rep from * until 5 (5, 7) rows have been completed for Inseam, do not cut off.
Ch 11 (11, 13), sc in second ch from hook, in each rem ch and in each sc across, turn.
*Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn, rep from * until a total of 66 (68, 70) rows have been completed for Opposite Leg, do not cut off.
Sl st across 10 (10, 12) sc, ch 1, sc in each rem sc across, turn.
*Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn, rep from * until a total of 5 (5, 7) rows have been completed for Opposite Inseam, fasten off.
With yarn needle, sew back seam by sewing the final row to the first row, only across 27 (30, 31) sc, do not sew together the leg and crotch area.
Preparation: Join ends of elastic with sewing needle and thread to form two separate rings. There will be some overlapping to ensure a secure joining. The right side of garment is determined by which side you seamed.
Rnd 1: With smaller hook and right side of garment facing you, join yarn with sl st to back seam, ch 1, sc evenly around, working along side of each sc row, sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, sl st to first sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, holding one ring of elastic up to your work, work sc in each sc around, working OVER the elastic, sl st to first sc.
Rnd 4: Rep rnd 3 with second ring of elastic, fasten off.
With larger hook, ch 24 (24, 29), sc in second ch from hook and in each rem ch, turn.
*Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn, rep from * until a total of 5 (6, 7) rows have been completed, fasten off.
Turn shorts inside out so that the wrong side is facing you. With yarn needle, sew the Inseam Gusset to the inner leg of right side front, across the crotch and down the inner leg of left side front, turn work so the seat is facing you, sew opposite long side to leg, across crotch and down the other seat side leg, weave in all ends securely.
