Bride’s Handkerchief

Technique: Regular Crochet

Materials

  • Hook size 13
  • Small ball of white tatting/crochet cotton, size 70
  • 250 small clear rocaille beads
  • Beading needle
  • Hemstitched white handkerchief (Try Hanky Blanks)
  • Optional: white embroidery thread, embroidery needle, blue satin bow

Begin by threading the beads onto the crochet cotton.

Instructions

Rnd 1: Attach the cotton to any corner of the handkerchief, ch 6 (counts as first dc and 3 ch). * 1 dc, 1 ch. Repeat from * around, except at corners, in the same space, 1 dc, 3 ch, 1 dc. Sl st in third chain of starting chain.

Rnd 2: Sl st into 3-ch lp. Ch 3, 2 dc, (ch 2, 3 dc) twice. * In next 1-ch lp, work 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc (SHELL), sc in next 1-ch lp. Repeat from * around, except at corners, work (3 dc, 2 ch) twice, 3 dc. Note: Due to the differences in sizes of hemstitching, it may be necessary for you to skip one or more 1-ch lps in order to accommodate the corners. Slp st in third chain of starting chain.

Rnd 3: Sl st into first 2-ch lp. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc. In next 2-ch lp, work shell. In next sc, work beaded sc. (For a beaded sc, bring bead close to work, insert hook and draw through a loop. Keeping the bead steady, YO and draw through both loops) * Work shell in 2-ch lp of next shell, work beaded sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, except at corners, work a shell in each ch-2 lp. Sl st to third chain of starting chain.

Rnd 4: Sl st on 2 dc and in 2-ch lp. Ch 1, sc in 2-ch lp, ch 2. Skip 3 dc. In space between two shells, work (dc, ch 2, sl st a bead, ch 2, dc) CORNER V-STITCH. * Ch 2, sc in shell of previous row. In sc of previous row, work (dc, ch 1, sl st a bead, ch 1, dc) V-STITCH. Repeat from * around, except at corners, work Corner V-Stitch. Sl st to first sc.

Optional: With embroidery thread in a corner of the handkerchief, embroider the bride’s initial. Tack on the blue satin ribbon to the corner below the initial.
