“Layers: 18 Crochet Projects to Fit, Flatter & Drape” is by Kristin Omdahl and was published in May 2019, available in both digital and print versions. The patterns can also be purchased individually in Kristin’s Ravelry store.
As the name suggests, there are 18 beautiful projects in the book, most of them in Kristin’s gorgeous style of lace, lace and more lace, all in a 110-page book.
The patterns include fully tech-edited written instructions as well as exceptional symbol charts and diagrams, many of them including schematics to make construction easier. Kristin also provides even further instruction online with her video glossary. She is the winning trifecta of crochet designers!

Kristin has heard a lot of your requests and she includes a lot of photos in this book. Many of the projects can be seen front and back on mannequins and worn by Kristin. So, you are able to see not only the details but also how it looks when worn. It’s incredible how much detail and information Kristin has provided for each design. Because it’s self-published, she can bring her vision to its full fruition.
I was able to pick my three favorite projects in the book and you will quickly see why this book is so special.
Astral is made in Kristin’s Be So Sporty yarn and it’s a stunner, isn’t it? The stitch pattern is sort of a partial Jasmine stitch. Absolutely gorgeous lacework on this one.
Sally is a super easy design made as a rectangle with two vertical slits for the arms. It’s just so gorgeous shown here in Kristin’s Be So Fine yarn. The lace is so incredible and that COLOR! Double trebles are used throughout so you’ll have this project finished quickly. It can be made as gifts for most since the sizing is small through 2X.
This one is my favorite out of the entire book. Cora is a bolero wrap cardigan style and is made in Kristin’s Be So Fresh Yarn. You would never guess by looking at it that it’s made in super easy motifs. Triangle motif instructions are also included for the shaped areas. Like everything else in the book, Kristin has written instructions and extensive charts showing not only the motifs but the construction as well.
Disclaimer: Just a head’s up that Kristin provided me with a digital copy of this new book for the purposes of my writing this review. This doesn’t change or influence my opinion on the book. There was no other compensation and my review is my own honest opinion.
