Yes, I took the Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball challenge! And, yes, you really can get a beautiful crochet lace shawl out of just one ball of the yarn.
It’s a crazy amount of fun to make an entire shawl and you only have two ends to weave. A beautiful thing.

- Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball, 518 yds per 150g, aran weight, cotton/acrylic blend, one ball, shown in color Healing Teal
- Suggested hook size: L-11 [8mm]
- Needle (for weaving ends)
Notes
This is a rectangular wrap, worked from short end to short end.
Gauge
In stitch pattern, 12 sts for 7 rows measures 4″ square; one stitch repeat measures about 2″
Special Stitches
Fan (fan): [Sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3, sc] in same indicated space.
Stitch Multiple
Any multiple of 6, then add 7.
Crochet Pattern Instructions
Row 1: Ch 61, sk 6 ch, sc in next ch, *ch 3, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch, rep from * to last 6 ch, ch 3, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, sk 3 ch, dc in last ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in dc, *ch 3, sk ch-3 sp, fan in next ch-3 sp, rep from * to ch-6 sp, ch 3, sc in ch-6 sp, turn.
Row 3: Ch 6, sk first ch-3 sp, sc in first ch-3 sp of first fan, ch 3, sc in next-ch-3 sp of same fan, *ch 3, sk ch-3 sp, sc in first ch-3 sp of next fan, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp of same fan, rep from * to last sc, ch 3, dc in last sc, turn.
Rows 4-101: Rep rows 2-3, fasten off.
Finishing
With yarn needle, sew in ends carefully. Block, if desired.
