Finished Size

Approximately 8” wide by 55” long

Materials

  • Crystal Palace Mini Mochi (195 yds per ball): 3 balls (shown in #113)
  • Suggested hook size: Size 6mm [US J-10] Tunisian Afghan Hook (minimum 10” length) and Size 3.75mm [US F-5] regular crochet hook
  • Round stitch marker
  • Needle (for weaving ends)

Gauge

With afghan hook, 18 trs equals 4”

Special Stitches

Tunisian Reverse Stitch (trs): Insert hook behind work, under back vertical bar, in a side-to-side motion, always staying to the back of work, yo, pull up a lp.

Tunisian Knit Stitch (tks): Insert hook between front and back vertical bars coming out at back of work, yo, pull up a lp.

Unless instructed otherwise, close all rows as follows: Ch 1, [yo, draw through 2 lps] across.

Crochet Pattern Instructions

Foundation Row

Row 1: With afghan hook, ch 35, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo, draw up a lp, [insert hook in next ch, yo, draw up a lp] across to end—35 sts. Close normally.

First Short Row Wedge

Row 2: Sk first vertical bar, trs across to within last 2 sts. Close normally, leaving last 2 sts unworked—33 sts.

Rows 3-17: Rep row 2. On final row, 3 sts.

Completing First Short Row Wedge

Row 18: Sk first vertical bar, 2 tks, tks in each of 2 skipped sts from rows 1-16 below—35 sts. Close normally.

Second Short Row Wedge

Row 19: Sk first vertical bar, 2 tks, pm, tks across, close normally up to stitch marker—3 sts on non-working side of stitch marker. Note: for this Wedge, the number of lps on the hook will always be 35. The number of lps on the non-working side of the stitch marker will change. The stitch count at the end of the row will correspond only to the number on the non-working side of the stitch marker.

Row 20: Carefully remove the last lp worked from the hook, remove marker, place lp back on hook, sk vertical bar below lp just removed, tks in next st, pm, tks across, close normally up to stitch marker—5 sts.

Rows 21-33: Rep row 20. On final row, 31 sts.

Row 34: Do not move the stitch marker. Sk vertical bar below first lp on the working side of stitch marker, tks in next 3 sts, close normally up to stitch marker, remove stitch marker, close rem sts normally.

Repeating First Short Row Wedge

Row 35: Sk first vertical bar, trs across to end—35 sts. Close normally.

Rep rows 2-18 of First Short Row Wedge.

Continue Scarf

The pictured scarf is made with a total of 23 wedges. Continue making wedges, repeating the first and second short row wedges, or until scarf reaches the length desired. Always end with a First Short Row Wedge (trs), ending with a row 17 of that wedge.

Bind Off and Trim (created simultaneously)

With regular crochet hook, ch 1, 2 sc in first vertical bar, working as for a row 18 as for tks, sc in each st across, working into unused sts from previous rows, to within last vertical bar, 2 sc in last vertical bar, cont working around rem 3 sides of scarf, working sc evenly along edges, with 2 sc in each rem corner, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Finishing

With yarn needle, weave in ends securely.
