Guide to Tunisian Crochet with Interchangeable Cable Hooks

Once you see how easy it is to do Tunisian crochet and you quickly fall hopelessly in love with it, I recommend that you start looking into buying a set of hooks. You will love having all the sizes together in one nice, tidy case. In fact, you may want duplicates so you can do even more!

When you’re looking for a specific size of Tunisian crochet hook, you’ll find lots of different sets. My favorite set is ChiaoGoo Tunisian Crochet Interchangeable Set with Cables.

The Tunisian crochet hook tips are sold separately for all of these sets, making it easy to convert all of them to circular Tunisian crochet hooks for Double-ended Tunisian crochet and Tunisian crochet in-the-round.

This hook set features the wonderful SPIN technology that allows the hook tip to spin independently from the cable. This eases the tension on your wrist and makes it easier to do Tunisian crochet when you’re not battling with trying to keep the hook straight.

The set is in a quilted fabric, zippered case. If you purchase extra hooks separately, you can simply attach one hook on each end to work as double-ended Tunisian crochet or Tunisian crochet in-the-round.

The Chiagoo Tunisian Crochet Interchangeable Cables set includes the following 11 hook sizes:

  • size E (3.5mm)
  • size F (3.75mm)
  • size G (4.0mm)
  • size 7 (4.5mm)
  • size H (5.0mm)
  • size I (5.5mm)
  • size J (6.0mm)
  • size K (6.5mm)
  • size L (8.0mm)
  • size M (9.0mm)
  • size N (10.0mm)

Note that the larger sizes don’t fit on the smaller cables so the set includes adapter rings. This is like a “gateway” to get from the smaller size to the larger size. It’s all included in the set, of course. I only mention it in case you purchase the hook tips separately.

These are also lovely lightweight bamboo hooks in a beautiful envelope style fabric case. When you have purchased extra hooks, you can use them for Tunisian double-ended crochet but you will need to ensure that you have the adapter so the hook attaches to the cord since these cords are only made to attach to the stopper.

The Clover Tunisian Crochet Interchangeable Cables set includes the following 9 hook sizes:

  • size E (3.5mm)
  • size F (3.75mm)
  • size G (4.0mm)
  • size 7 (4.5mm)
  • size H (5.0mm)
  • size I (5.5mm)
  • size J (6.0mm)
  • size K (6.5mm)
  • size L (8.0mm)

Denise Interchangeable Cabled Hooks

Guide to Tunisian Crochet with Interchangeable Cable Hooks

This hook set features durable plastic resin hooks made in a variety of colors. There is an all-white set, all-pink set, a pastel set and a brights set. The hooks attach to the cords easily and don’t require a tool for tightening as you find with metal joins. There are also less expensive, “mini sets” called Denise 2Go which include the most commonly used hook sizes.

The hook tips are shorter in length than the bamboo interchangeables. If you have larger hands, you may find that the place where the cable joins to the hook tip rubs against the side of your hand. I haven’t ever had this problem and I love these hooks just as much as the other sets, but I have heard this from other people.

I love the shape of the hook tip and I’ve used the hook tips alone for Slip Stitch Crochet projects because it’s sharp enough to make it easy to get under the tighter loops in that technique.

The Denise Tunisian Crochet Interchangeable Cables set includes the following 12 hook sizes:

  • F (3.75mm)
  • G (4mm)
  • 7 (4.5mm)
  • H (5mm)
  • I (5.5mm)
  • J (6mm)
  • K (6.5mm)
  • L (8mm)
  • M (9mm)
  • N (10mm)
  • 17 (12mm)
  • 19 (15mm)
