This is my first time featuring Gaia here and I’m thrilled. Just look at that crochet beauty. Gorgeous!
Maestrale is made in lovely Scheepjes Whirl. I am so loving this yarn. If you’re not in a part of the world where this yarn is readily-available, you might try “It’s a Wrap”, something new from Red Heart. It seems very close to Scheepjes, perhaps just a tad finer. I can’t wait to get some!
Maestrale is a triangle shawl which starts at the bottom, moving up to the top, adding on at the sides as you go. The long color changes work perfectly with this beautiful stitch pattern.
Don’t be intimidated by the complexity of the stitch pattern. Gaia has provided written instructions, a chart and even a YouTube video. The link to YouTube is on the Ravelry page below. I hopped over there to have a look. She has such a lovely accent. She made me smile just listening to her voice.
With a project like this, you’re going to want to block your project. Don’t be afraid of it! It can be very simple. You don’t have to pin it out and worry about rusting pins. You don’t have to have a blocking board and you don’t have to have blocking wires. Yes, these things are fun and provide perfect lines and points, but a simple blocking is perfectly safe.
Dip your project completely in clean, cool water. Squish it gently to remove it from the bowl. Place it on a clean, dry towel and roll up the towel tightly. Really push down on the towel to remove as much water as possible. I like to spread out my project and shape it on the top of my bed. Stretch gently and shape. Just leave it there to dry. Remember to shut the door if you have pets. The yarn is so thin that it only takes a little while to dry.
