Materials

  • Patons Decor (3.5 oz/210 yd): 6 skeins each of Country Blue (CA) and Rich Aubergine (CB)
  • Crochet Hook Size I (5.5mm)
  • Yarn needle

Crochet Pattern Instructions

Note: When changing colors, do not cut off at the end of the row. Change to the new color and carry the unused color along the side of the afghan.

Row 1: With CA, ch 166, 2 dc in fourth ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, sc in next ch, sk 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, rep from * to last 6 sts, sk 2 ch, sc in next ch, sk 2 ch, 3 dc in last ch, changing to CB on last dc, turn.

Row 2: With CB, ch 1, sc in first dc, *ch 1, sk 2 dc and sc, dc between sc and next dc, ch 1, dc in skipped side of same sc (Crossed Stitch made), ch 1, sk sc of Crossed Stitch and 2 dc, sc in next dc, rep from * to last 6 sts, ch 1, sk 2 sc and sc, dc between sc and next dc, ch 1, dc in skipped side of same sc, ch 1, sk sc of Crossed Stitch and 2 dc, sc in top ch of ch-3 of previous row, turn.

Row 3: (RS) Ch 1, sc in sc, *5 dc in ch-1 sp of Crossed Stitch, sc in sc, rep from * to end, changing to CA on last sc, turn.

Row 4: With CA, ch 3, dc in same sc, ch 1, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, *ch 1, sk 2 dc and sc, dc between sc and next dc, ch 1, dc in skipped side of same sc (Crossed Stitch), ch 1, sk sc of Crossed Stitch and 2 dc, sc in next dc, rep from * to last 3 sts, ch 1, sk 2 dc, 2 dc in last sc, turn.

Row 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in same dc, *sc in sc, 5 dc in ch-1 sp of Crossed Stitch, rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in sc, 3 dc in top of ch-3 of previous row, changing to CB on last dc, turn.

Rep rows 2-5 a total of 26 times more, rep rows 2-4 once more. After completion of the last row, do not cut off. Begin working in rounds.

Rnd 1: When working this round, ensure that you make your stitches around the carried yarn along the side, covering them. Still with CA and with right side facing, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp as joining, *165 dc evenly along short side of afghan, 5 dc in corner, 179 dc evenly along long side of afghan, **5 dc in corner, rep between * and ** once more, sl st to third ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc plus 1 ch), *sk 1 dc, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next dc, [ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc] 84 times, ch 1, sk 1 dc, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next dc, ** [ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc] 91 times, ch 1, rep between * and ** once more, [ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc] 90 times, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sl st to third ch of beg ch-4.

Pay close attention to the following round. Two sides are worked into ch-1 spaces and two sides are worked into stitches.

Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), sk first ch-1 sp, *[(dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-1 sp, dc in next ch-1 sp] 43 times, [dc, ch 3, dc] in next ch-1 sp, sk ch-1 sp, [dc in next dc, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next dc] 45 times, sk ch-1 sp, **dc in next dc, sk ch-1 sp, rep between * and ** once more, sl st to third ch of beg ch-3 and into ch-3 sp.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, [3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc] in same ch-3 sp, *[ch 2, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp] 42 times, ch 2, [3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc] in next ch-3 sp, [ch 2, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp] 45 times, ** ch 2, [3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc] in next ch-3 sp, rep between * and ** once more, ch 2, sl st to first sc and into next sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, *[dc, ch 3, dc] in ch-2 sp, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, ending with sl st to first sc, fasten off.

Weave in all ends securely.
