“Top-Down Crochet Sweaters” is by Dora Ohrenstein and was published in 2016 by Storey Publishing.
The book is in two parts. The first part is a detailed text about top-down garment construction and how to produce a customized fit. This section isn’t a simple introduction. It’s a comprehensive guide to adjusting your sweater for your individual style, including waist tapering, shortening and lengthening and so much more.
The second part of the book consists of 14 crochet patterns written in sizes small through extra-large or extra-extra large.
I like that Dora chose yarns for these projects that are easy to find online.
I was able to pick my three favorite projects in the book and you will quickly see why this book is so special.
Luna is a pullover with 3/4 sleeves, made in Knit Picks Stroll Tonal. I love the look of the long crochet stitches here. I peeked at the projects listed on Ravelry. One project was made with short sleeves and it’s lovely. The point of the book is to enjoy yourself and explore your creativity by creating projects exclusive to you.
Erde is another pullover design, this time in lace. This one is made in Valley Yarns Alpaca Silk. I’ve used this stitch pattern before and I always loved it in this finer gauge. So pretty.
This one is Jade, worked in Cascade Yarns Venezia Sport. It’s pretty incredible with those gorgeous cables.
