Video Assistance
You can find a video for this technique on my YouTube channel here, in both right- and left-handed versions. These videos show how to work the drop stitch itself. Follow the instructions below to establish the stich pattern.
Instructions
Row 1 (RS): Ch 26, sc in second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, do not turn—25 sc.
Hold knitting needle in non-hook hand with point facing to the right if right-handed and to the left if left-handed while holding your crochet hook where you usually hold it.
Row 2: Ch 1 and pull up on lp on hook, slip lp onto knitting needle. (First lp counts as first drop st of row.) Work in back lps of sc only, unless otherwise specified.
Note: Unlike broomstick lace, this instruction includes a chain 1 at the bottom of the loops. This chain 1 is placed below the tall loop to help stabilize it. The tall loop will slip around if the chain 1 is not placed.
One loop has been placed on hook (see beginning of row 2), sk first sc (that first loop counts as the first stitch), drop st in next 4 sc, *sk 1 sc, drop st in next sc, 3 drop st in next sc, drop st in next sc, sk 1 sc, drop st in next 5 sc, rep from * once more (working the last drop st under both lps of sc instead of only the back lp, for stability)-25 drop sts.
Slowly and carefully slide all the loops off the knitting needle. Do not turn.
Row 3: Extend yarn slightly to begin working in top of first drop st, sl st in first drop st, ch 1, 2 sc in same drop st, sc in next drop st, sc in top of 3 drop sts together (as one), 2 sc in next drop st, 3 sc in top of 3 drop sts together, 2 sc in next drop st, sc in next drop st, sc in top of 3 drop sts together, sc in next drop st, 2 sc in next drop st, 3 sc in top of 3 drop sts together, 2 sc in next drop st, sc in top of 3 drop sts together, sc in next drop st, 2 sc in last drop st-25 sc.
Rep rows 2-3 until desired length, fasten off.
Weave in all ends with yarn needle. Block as desired. Project may not appear to have significant waves until after blocking.
