Finished size

8″ height, 24″ circumference (Project doesn’t appear to be 8″ high because it curls in on itself due to the moebius join.)

Materials

  • Plymouth Yarn Company’s Monte Donegal (40% alpaca/40% merino/14% acrylic/6% rayon) (109 yds per 50g) 218 yds required for project (shown in color 10 aqua)
  • Suggested hook: K-10 1/2 (6.5mm)
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle (for weaving ends)

Yarn Note

If you can’t get hold of Monte Donegal a suggested substitute is Universal Yarn Deluxe Worsted Tweed Superwash.

Gauge

In stitch pattern, 12 sts for 14 rounds measures 4″ (Due to the moebius join, there is the illusion of 28 rounds worked total, even though the actual round count is 14.)

Note

Project is worked in moebius technique, in the round, without seaming.

Special Stitch

Cluster (cl): Yo, insert hook in st indicated, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, [yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] twice, yo, pull through 4 lps on hook. (Bobble will be on opposite side of work. Do not push through to the front.)

Crochet Pattern Instructions

Round 1: Ch 70, sk first ch, sc in each remaining ch, with stitch marker, mark top of FIRST sc created. Without twisting length of sc, form a ring with the first sc next to the last sc. At the stitch marker, flip that one side of the length of sc one half turn so that the stitch marker is on the bottom. While marked st is close to work, sc in each unused loop of foundation ch (you’re working along the bottom of the chain). Turn marked sc slightly and sl st to top of marked st as you would normally. Full moebius join completed-138 sc.

Begin working in rounds without slip stitch join, working in a spiral. Move stitch marker up as work progresses. Note that, when working in a moebius, the foundation chain is in the center of the project and each round actually goes around the top and bottom giving the illusion of two rounds worked.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around-138 sc.

Round 3: *Sc in each of next 2 sc, cl in next sc, rep from * around.

Rounds 4-5: Sc in each st around-138 sc.

Rounds 6-14: Rep rounds 3-5. Fasten off after final round. With yarn needle, weave in ends securely.
