Finished Shoe Size

One size: Can fit women’s shoe sizes over 11 or men’s shoe sizes 10 through 14 due to the stretchy nature of the elastic in the yarn.

Description

I don’t like to wear shoes around the house but when the temperature drops, I like to wear little store-bought ankle booties. I’ve always wanted to make myself a pair. This design is not intended to be for true ankle socks that you would wear in shoes. They are intended to be little “house booties” to keep your feet warm.

Skill Level

This sock is pretty easy for me to stitch together, but in the world of crochet skill levels, all socks are considered to be at least intermediate level.

Materials

  • Cascade Yarns Fixation (98% cotton/2% elastic) (100 yds in each 50g ball) DK weight, 2 balls required (shown in color 2706 showcase teal) I bought this yarn at Amazon.
  • Suggested hook size: F-5 (3.75mm) and G-6 (4mm) (or sizes required to meet gauge)
  • Stitch marker or small piece of scrap yarn
  • Yarn needle (for weaving ends)

Gauge

Working sc in the round, 21 sts for 28 rows measures approx. 4″

Ribbing piece measures approx. 9″ long by 1″ high

Heel piece measures approx. 3″ wide by 2″ long

From bottom of Ribbing to Toe measures approx. 8″

Circumference around foot is approx. 9.5″

Notes

The project begins by working the ribbing vertically, the heel and the rest of the foot are made along the sides of the rows of ribbing. Please be patient, especially if you have never made a sock before. It will look very strange at first.

Use care not to stretch the yarn as you are crocheting with it. You want to let the elastic work for you when you’re wearing it, not stretch it out.

This project has not been tested with non-elastic yarn.
