Suggested Foundation Because this isn’t an insertion stitch, you can work the Extended Stitch directly onto the chain foundation instead of using a different stitch.
Instructions: Insert hook in a side to side motion (right to left for right-handers or left to right for left-handers) under front vertical bar, yarn over, pull loop through, chain 1.
This stitch has now created one loop on the hook. Think of it as a regular simple stitch with a chain on top.
Notes
As with all of the “tall” stitches in Tunisian crochet, you can usually use any of the Insertion stitches (i.e.; simple, knit, purl, etc.). See the Tunisian Crochet Library for other variations as they are added.
To begin a row of Extended Stitch, make a chain one at the beginning. With the shorter stitches, this is unnecessary, but as the stitches get taller, you will need extra height.
