My youngest son wanted a new scarf and he is a huge fan of orange and gold.
I have quite a selection of colors of Stylecraft Special DK yarn so I had him pick some favorites. Gold and grey, it is!
Then, I just needed to come up with a stitch pattern that would suit him. With Tunisian crochet, it’s really easy to get something fun that works for everyone.
Choose your two favorite colors or the colors of your favorite sports team!

6.5″ x 67″
Materials
- Stylecraft Special Double Knit yarn, 100% acrylic, 322 yds per 100g: 1 skein each of Gold and Silver (about 210 yds of each color required)
- Size 5.5mm Double Ended Hook with cable measuring approximately 20″ (or more) from hook tip to hook tip

Special Stitches
Foundation Row: This project starts with a typical foundation row.
Chain the indicated number, skip first chain, *insert hook in next chain, yarn over, pull loop through, leave loop on hook, repeat from * to end.
You will have the same number of loops on your hook as your starting chain.
Closing: All rows in this project will be completed with the same closing as follows: chain 1 (to close the first stitch), [yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook] to close each remaining stitch. 1 loop remains on hook which counts as the first stitch of the next row.
Tunisian Reverse Stitch (trs): With hook in back of work, insert hook in a side to side motion (right to left for right-handers or left to right for left-handers) under back vertical bar, yarn over, pull loop through. The hook stays in the back of the work throughout the stitch. Tunisian reverse stitch video.
Twisted Tunisian Simple Stitch (tw tss): Using the hook tip, pull the front vertical bar in the direction of the beginning of the row and then loop the hook around the vertical bar, turning the hook tip so the hook is now facing you, the vertical bar will now be fully looped around the hook, yarn over, pull loop through. Tunisian simple stitch video.
Binding Off (final row): For this project, I have chosen a Tunisian Reverse Stitch Bind Off. Insert your hook as you would for a Tunisian Reverse Stitch, yarn over, pull loop through the stitch and through the loop on the hook.
You are making a slip stitch. Make this slip stitch all the way across. How to bind off.
Gauge
14 stitches x 14 rows equals 4″
Skill Level
Yes, this is Tunisian Crochet. But, don’t let that intimidate you. With full video support, this project can even be done by a beginner to Tunisian.
Notes
This project is worked lengthwise. The rows are quite long but you don’t need to do many of them.
This project is a combination regular Tunisian and double-ended Tunisian project. For this look, you’ll need to have a cabled double-ended hook. You can do the stitch pattern in all regular Tunisian or in all double-ended Tunisian, but it won’t have the same slightly ribbed tubular sort of look.
Because double-ended is used, the scarf is predominantly one color or one side and one color on the other. It is fully reversible and there is no right or wrong side.
Color Changing
There are two different ways to handle the color changing for this project. Choose the one you prefer.
- When changing to a new color, simply drop the unused color and carry up the other color. Carry up the new color loosely so it doesn’t pucker the fabric. Once the project is finished, use a needle and the cut off yarn to twist and tack the strands so you don’t have loose sections of yarn at the end. OR
- When changing to a new color, cut off the yarn after each color change.
My preference is to use option 1 since it involves a quicker finishing with fewer ends to weave in.
